Saturday Morning Goodness!

Today was our neighborhood garage sale and instead having a much needed sale ourselves, Brewier and I canvassed the community looking for treasures. Our search was not in vain. Despite my constant mantra of, "I don't need anything!" we came home with all of this, including the buffet, which was the deal of the day. $25 for this beauty, delivered. The couple who sold it to us had people coming up to them after we had already bought it offering as much as $100 for it. I'd guess it to be about 50 years old.
Everything else on top of the buffet was $1 except the salad spinner which was $2.
Yes, it was a good day.

Lovely Little jar

Brewier and I went to our favorite antique in Madison In., this morning. This is what caught my eye, and at $3 I considered it a bargain.

Photobucket

I think its old, but don't know for sure. Here is a look at the bottom of the jar. It appears to be hand blown. Has anyone seen anything like it, or know what it is?

And the lid.

Vintage British Picnic basket

I'm a pushover for picnic baskets, I can't tell you how many I've bought over the years. This one however, is the nicest by far. It contains 3 thermos's a container for cream and another for sugar, tupperware type containers for sandwiches and other goodies, and complete place settings for 6 people...and it has never been used. The couple I bought it from had received it long ago from friends who had come to visit them from England. Even if I never used it for picnics, the bascket itself would be so cool as a storage piece!

The Plate I Sent Brewier Back to Buy

The last thing I need is another piece of china, but just look at this lustreware piece. It is so beautiful and in such great shape!
Brewier and I were at a garage sale and I kept going back to look at this plate; I just love it. But as I said, I don't need any more dishes and despite Brewier's encouragement to go ahead and buy it, I didn't. Then as we were pulling away from the sale I realized I'd regret that decision, so Brewier stopped the car and hopped out to go get it for me <3

Zebra Love.

I have been wanting a zebra print bag, but I don't do vinyl, or any other kind of synthetic material, so most handbags are out of my price range. When I saw this leather and fur/hair beauty for $2, I knew it was meant for me.

My Fifty Cent Skirt.

I'm still alive and thrifting, after being out of town for over a month, but my camera is acting wonky and my pictures aren't turning out. I had taken this shot a while back and realize I hadn't posted it. I actually got this skirt as well as a second skirt and a pair of shorts, (that were new with tags!) for .50 a piece, and they all fit perfectly! I love when that happens.

Dishes!

I live in a neighborhood that has quite a few older, (80 +years,) people in it. I love when they have garage sales, and today one of them was having an estate sale. I found a few cute vintage things. I especially love the mugs.

Bathroom Light

The house I'm staging has builder grade strip lights above the bathroom mirrors, and I really want to replace them. I bought a new fixture for the master bath but it wasn't in the budget to get one for the guest bath. I was very excited to find this fixture for just $4 at a garage sale. It will be getting a fresh coat of anodized bronze paint before it goes up.

I'm a Visionary

I just received the latest Pottery Barn catalogue, and this is the cover picture. Cute lanterns, don't you think?

Me too, which is why I bought this lantern 3 weeks ago at a garage sale for $1. Love it.

I Almost Didn't Buy Them.

I'm glad my husband talked me into them, because I do really like them and have used them a bunch. They are vintage Hall pottery restaurant ware and cost just $4 for all 10 pieces.

Things are Picking Up.

We hit quite a few yard sales this Saturday, and her a just a couple of the items I bought. The first is a vintage linen table cloth and four matching napkins, for $2!

I bought this tray at the same sale for $2, and the silver dish at a different sale for .50! I like how they look together.

Garage Sale Goodness

There were only a couple of garage sales Saturday, but I was still able to find some treasures. I bought these four sweaters for .50 each. The two blue sweaters are cashmere. I have already felted them and they will soon be resurrected as something other than a sweater.

I love vintage luggage, I find it so romantic. This is an Oshkosh Luggage train case that I picked up for $3. I still need to clean it up, but other than a cracked miror, its in good shape. I may use this in the house I'm staging.

Treasure Map

THIS is the best thing ever for anyone that garage sales!
The site searches Craigslist for sales in your area, then maps them for you! Put your curser on on of the sales, and the Craigslist add pops up so you can see what they're selling. Awesome.

Buttons!

This plastic shoe box full of vintage buttons, still on there cards. $8. Not the best deal, but there are some great buttons in there.

This thing is huge!

I bought this big green glass jug for the house I'm staging. I'm going for a coastal look.
I picked this up at a church rummage sale where nothing was priced, you decide on the, "donation," amount. I decided $3 was what I'd pay for it at a garage sale, so that was what I got it for. I wonder...if I had said a quarter, would they've still sold it to me?

I Love Linen

My eyes search it out whenever I approach a table filled with fabrics. I spotted these two, like new pillow covers as I walked up to a garage sale. They had no price on them, and when I saw the Pottery Barn label, I figured they'd be more than I wanted to pay. Wrong! The woman was asking $1 for both. Do I know where I'll use them? No...but they're linen!

Staging a House

A friend has asked me to stage her home that is for sale, she has already moved out of state and there are friends living in the house for now. I have a $300 budget, and the whole house needs decor, ( I'll post before and after pics when the project is completed.) Here are a few Items I picked up at garage sales for use in the guest room.
The lamp, (I started peeling off the fabric to recover, but stopped. I may just go with the leopard print.) $1
Rattan tray $2
Rattan picture frame $1
Bed spread and shams $4
